2008 Maryland Scholastic Chess Championships
15 & 16 March 2008

73 Individual Trophies and 39 Team Trophies!
Winners of the Championship Sections (Individual and Team) will be 2008 Maryland Scholastic Champion
This is an individual and combined individual team tournament. Team scores are the top four players from the same school in each section. Schools may enter an unlimited number of players in a section and the top four scores will be the team score. Note that only MD schools are eligible for team trophies.Eight Sections - All are five round swiss
Two-Day Sections - Rounds 1-3 Game/60, Rounds 4 and 5 Game/90; Schedule: Sat 10-12:30-3, Sun 9-12:15 [If requested before round two, a 1/2 point bye is available for the Sunday 9am round.]
High School Championship [Grades 9-12 only, any rating or unrated], Trophies to top 10 individuals and top 5 MD teams
Winner will be the Maryland representative to the Denker Invitational. The winner will be provided with a stipend to help with expenses at the Denker. If there is a tie for first place, a blitz playoff will determine the Denker representative.Middle School Championship [Grades 6-8 only, any rating or unrated]
Elementary School Championship [Grades K-5 only, any rating or unrated]
Saturday Only One-Day Sections - Game/30 - First round 10:00, then ASAP
Primary School Championship [Grades K-3 only, any rating or unrated]
High School Junior Varsity [Grades 9-12 only and rated either under 1000 or unrated]
Middle School Junior Varsity [Grades 6-8 only and rated either under 800 or unrated]
Elementary School Junior Varsity [Grades K-5 only and either rated under 600 or unrated]
Primary School Junior Varsity [Grades K-3 only and rated either under 400 or unrated]
Entrance Fees for all sections
US Chess Federation Membership is required.
$17 before Feb 15th (online or by mail)
$22 before March 11th (online or by mail)
$30 by 7pm on March 14th (online only)
$35 at-the-door, 1st round 1/2 point bye

Maryland Scholastic Blitz Championship
March 15th ~6pm
A five round double swiss (two games with each opponent) at Game/5. Winner of each section (Individual and Team) is the Maryland Scholastic Blitz Champion. This is an individual and combined individual team tournament. Team scores are the top four players from the same school in each section. Schools may enter an unlimited number of players in a section and the top four scores will be the team score. Note that only MD schools are eligible for team trophies. Official USCF Blitz rules will apply (Touch move not clock move!).
In three sections:
High School (grades 9-12 only)
Middle School (grades 6-8 only)
Elementary School (grades K-5 only)
Trophies to the top five indivduals and top three MD schools in each section. At-the-door registration closes at 5pm Saturday.
